About Us

Located on remote private land inside the Monongahela National Forest, Dacha Farms comprises over 100 acres of West Virginia mountain territory.  Founded in late 2007, the farm represents a lifetime effort to create a legacy business for generations of family to enjoy.  Our mission is to produce apples, grapes, and other agricultural products as inputs to regional food manufacturers.

Our Crops

Apples and grapes are currently the preferred crop because of their perennial production and market demand.  They are also plants that can grow reliably in the unique mountain micro-climate of Rimel, West Virginia.  Additionally, we can easily synchronize production of these products with our perceived role as stewards of God's land.  When we obtained the land in 2006, generations of poor forest management had left the forest sick and ailing.  In the distant future, other agricultural endeavors may include Christmas trees, pumpkins, coffee, and small greenhouses.

The Health of the Environment is Critical.

Our remote location, limited labor force, and commitment to the environment keep us focused on innovative agricultural techniques that maximize crop yield and labor availability but minimize production costs and environmental impact.  For example, we intend to use our own water tables in conjunction with solar-powered drip irrigation to precisely satisfy the growth needs of our plants.   Since there are only two of us on the farm, we cannot currently guarantee our crops will be entirely organic by industry standards--though those standards are our goals.  Nevertheless, we will make every effort to protect the environment by maximizing natural alternatives and understanding the impacts of our choices.  After all, in the near term, the health of the soil beneath our trees is a critical consideration in the quality of the crops we harvest.  In the long run, the health of our environment is critical to our family's opportunity to enjoy earth's benefits.
